Best Practice and Standardisation of Measurable Residual Disease Testing in Leukaemia
Date: Tuesday 4th October 2022 Time: 09:15-15:45 (UK) Objectives:- To improve basic knowledge of molecular measurable residual disease (MRD) testing
- To share best practice for MRD testing
- To look at the current use of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) MRD testing and assess what more can be done to reduce intra and inter laboratory variation
- Overview of molecular measurable residual disease testing – history; quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RTqPCR), quantitative reverse transcription digital PCR (RTdPCR), next generation sequencing; disease specific use in leukaemia; future areas for development
- Nucleic acid metrology and its role in supporting standardization of MRD testing in leukaemia
- The role of digital PCR in standardisation
- The role of reference materials in precision medicine, traceability, levels of uptake, how they can improve diagnostics to benefit public health
- BCR::ABL1 in CML: The development of primary and secondary WHO reference panels, calibrants, EUTOS standardisation projects - lessons learned.
- Molecular AML MRD: markers (nuances e.g. transcript types); clinical use of markers, use in standard of care/clinical trials setting
- The different challenges of standardising molecular MRD testing in AML and CML
- Development of molecular AML MRD assays, validation, and standardisation
- European LeukaemiaNet MRD AML standardisation projects
- Development of EQA, initial results, future plans

- Dr Alec Morley, Department of Haematology and Genetic Pathology, Flinders University
- Dr Alison Devonshire, National Measurement Laboratory, LGC
- Dr Adam Corner, Digital Biology Group, Bio-Rad Laboratories
