Session 2 and session 3 of the Mysteries of Myeloma webinar series will look at what we should be doing in the “proteins” sections of labs.  We will look at the pre-analytical issues and try to give the delegates some guidance on sensible reasons to request protein electrophoresis and immunoglobulins, we will look at the analytical requirements for the measurement of immunoglobulin, total protein and serum free light chains.   The requirement of serum and urine protein electrophoresis and immunofixation and their interpretation will be illustrated with examples. Finally, we will look at the post analytical issues including how we put all the results together into a useful comment for the requesting clinician and when to communicate results rapidly.

Week 4: New Monoclonal Gammopathy Patient, Now What?

Speaker: Dr Ross Sadler
Date: Wednesday 12th May 2021 - THIS SESSION HAS NOW BEEN DELIVERED
Identification of a patient's monoclonal status, using serum and urine is critical to the beginning of monoclonal gammopathy care.  Part of this process is being able to determine the significance of any new monoclonal that is discovered.  In this session, we will be focusing on how we can risk stratify new monoclonal gammopathy patients and work alongside Clinical Haematology and primary care to improve referral and monitoring processes.
