CLINICAL APPLICATION:
Manual white cell differential counts
PURPOSE OF PROGRAMME:
This programme is designed to maintain and improve blood film manual differential counting skills. A pilot option for differential counting by Automated Cell Imaging Systems is in development. Results in this option are returned for pre and post verification percentage and absolute counts.

MATERIAL PROVIDED: Glass slides with peripheral blood smears for morphology and differential counting (BF/DF slides). The smears are made, fixed and Giemsa/MGG stained by UK NEQAS Haematology.
DISTRIBUTIONS PER YEAR: 4 WBC differential cases per year
SAMPLES PER DISTRIBUTION: One slide for WBC differential per distribution
FREQUENCY OF DISTRIBUTION: as per Trial schedule

UK NEQAS Haematology is the expert centre within the UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) for all aspects of Haematology diagnostic testing external quality assessment (EQA), with almost 5,000 UK and international registrations and a further 3,000 individual practitioners in our educational morphology programme. UK NEQAS Haematology provides a wide range of EQA services for automated cell counting, blood morphology, haemoglobinopathies and other inherited red cell disorders. Participants may select the combination that fits their laboratory profile, making the Scheme flexible and adaptable to participants’ needs.
